Goodnight Steve McQueen -- Louise Wener
There's a quote from the Sunday Times magazine on the front cover that reads:
If you liked High Fidelity, you'll love Goodnight Steve McQueen.
Here's what I would have written:
If you loved High Fidelity (to read it is to love it), you'll get twenty pages into Goodnight Steve McQueen and see it for what it is: a mediocre Nick Hornby rip-off. Read (or re-read) High Fidelity instead.
Really, if you changed the pronouns and the names, the book could also be a Bridget Jones rip-off set in the music industry.
This isn't to say that the book didn't have a moment or two--I loved how much the guys in the book hated Jamie Oliver. Hmmm. Well, it had a moment, anyway.
