Best Foot Forward -- Joan Bauer
As far as I know, this is the first sequel that Joan Bauer has written. Like its predecessor, Rules of the Road, the book gives makes the art of selling shoes an almost religious experience. Which, actually, is a trend with the author--in Hope was Here, waitressing is treated the same way. And it just occurred to me that they're all books about the importance of treating people with respect, being honest, and having integrity.
But now I'm making them sound lame and boring and ponderous. Which they aren't at all. They're light and warm and funny. If Hope was Here is the equivalent of comfort food, then Rules of the Road and Best Foot Forward are the equivalent of... well, comfort food. They're just nice, good books.
(I will say, though, that Rules of the Road was better. And Hope was Here is still the best).
