A Republican-led House subcommittee acted, on a voice vote along party lines, to cut federal funding of public broadcasting by 25 percent, or $100 million, and to eliminate other programs that fund such children's educational fare as "Sesame Street," "Arthur" and "Postcards From Buster." The subcommittee's action, which far exceeds reductions President Bush had sought, goes before the full House Appropriations Committee next week, when most predict it will be adopted without major modification.
