I Can't Tell You -- Hillary Frank
Yeah, so I loved Better Than Running at Night. A lot.
But this book stinks. I don't think I can even finish it.
I've been debating about putting it in the Bad Books category because of BTRaN. (I loved it so much, I feel affection for the author because I loved it, therefore I feel guilty about trashing this book.)
But that isn't right. On the basis of its own merit--and it doesn't have any that I can find--I'm putting it on the Bad Books list.
It's the story of college-kid Jake, who has a huge fight with his roommate Sean. Due to the things that Jake says in the (drunken) heat of the moment, he decides that it'd be better if he stops talking altogether. So the book is a compilation of all of his notes, letters, calculator messages, etc. during that time.
I will say that I found the Jake/Sean relationship slightly intriguing--there's always that person that you're friends with in college that joins a fraternity/sorority/SCA and becomes a completely different person. But everything else just completely turned me off.
I don't know if Jake ever starts talking again. I can't really bring myself to care. The story is so ridiculously unlikely and the writing is uninspired. I am unimpressed.
