Leila's Oscar Picks.
Yeah. It's Oscar season. So, understand that I've seen LITERALLY none of the movies/performances that I'm planning on rooting for -- I'm just rooting for the sake of rooting. Root root root.
Best Actor: Philip Seymour Hoffman in Capote. Hey, it's not my fault I haven't seen it. It never came to Maine. What's up with that? I love my state, but really. No Capote? That's just silly. Anyway, Phillip Seymour Hoffman should win an Oscar every year. Even the years when he isn't in a movie.
Best Supporting Actor: Paul Giametti in Cinderella Man. Paul Giamatti should also win an Oscar every year. Note that Russell Crowe didn't get a nomination. Probably because of all the phone throwing. Also because of that year that he was pukey to Steve Martin. That is SO not allowed. It's freaking Steve Martin! Stupid Russell Crowe.
Best Actress: Reese Witherspoon in Walk the Line. I like Reese. I like June Carter Cash. Like Catherine O'Hara, Reese learned how to play the autoharp for a movie. That makes her ultra-cool in my book. Easy pick.
Best Supporting Actress: Toss-up. I'd be happy if Catherine Keener won for Capote -- she also deserves an Oscar every year. But I'd also like to see Michelle Williams get a Hilary Swank Oscar -- starting out in a cheesy teen soap and moving on to be critic's darling. Rock on.
Animated Feature: Howl's Moving Castle. Heck, if the movie gets more press, maybe more people will read Diana Wynne Jones' books, right?
Best Picture: Capote. Because damn it, maybe it's actually come to theaters up here if it wins.
