Gil's All Fright Diner -- A. Lee Martinez
I'll preface my grouchiness by saying this: I can totally see why this book would be popular. Pratchett fans will love it. It got an Alex Award, the main characters are a vampire and a werewolf, there's a teenage girl who's trying to bring about the apocalypse with pig Latin (the TRUE language of magic), there's a spirit trapped in a Magic 8 Ball -- it's all zany, all the time.
This is what it said to me: "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME AND HOW FUNNY I AM!! I'M THE FUNNIEST BOOK EVER!! EVER!! LAUGH, DAMN YOU!! LAUGH!!"
I don't know why books like this make me so grumpy. Or why I keep reading them. Steve, you might like it.
