Shaun Tuley, a 36-year-old inmate convicted of killing a prostitute in 2001, was refused permission to buy manuals on magic after officials ruled that the books were inappropriate for a prisoner, said Britain's prison service on Sunday.

It was not immediately clear if the manuals contained information on escapology.
