Another book thief -- and in my own state, too!

From the Lewiston Sun Journal:

LEWISTON - A Lewiston woman wants to keep local children from seeing an acclaimed sex education book, "It's Perfectly Normal." So she checked out copies from the Lewiston and Auburn public libraries.

And she won't give them back.

"Since I have been sufficiently horrified of the illustrations and the sexually graphic, amoral abnormal contents, I will not be returning the books," JoAn Karkos wrote the local libraries last month.

She sent the library a check to cover the cost of the books.

The library director sent the check back (along with an official book challenge form), and is considering pursuing the matter in court.

To Rick Speer and the LPL staff:  Rock on.  Rock on for not just quietly replacing the books. Rock on for standing up and telling it like it is, that thievery is thievery is thievery, and that just because someone doesn't like something doesn't mean they have the right to steal.

[Later: The story made the Boston Globe.]
