Another Catholic school system pulls The Golden Compass from library shelves.

From the school memo, via the National Post:

"Given the controversy related to the book, the district will not promote and/or use it to support instructional and/or literacy development pending additional information and initial review."

"At the same time, since bans and censoring tend to draw increased attention to the potentially inappropriate materials, a course of quiet non-participation is recommended."

This quiet non-participation has resulted in headline upon headline:

Calgary Catholic school board dumps Golden Compass
Golden Compass pulled from Calgary Catholic schools
More schools to pull 'The Golden Compass'
Canadian school board pulls fantasy book after parents' complaints
School board bans book of children's fantasy film

It should be noted that the book has not officially been banned in the school system, but has been pulled "pending review", "out of respect for the parents who have expressed concern".  No word as to whether or not Romeo & Juliet has been pulled, pending review, due to parents expressing concern about teen suicide, etc., etc.
