Books I'll be watching for this year.

Penguin:

Peeled, Joan Bauer -- A new Joan Bauer!  Do I really need to explain myself here?
My Most Excellent Year, Steve Kluger -- Last Days of Summer is one of my favorite favorite favorite books.  Really looking forward to this one.
Out of the Wild, Sarah Beth Durst -- Hurrah!  A sequel to Into the Wild!
Climbing the Stairs, Padma Venkatraman -- Okay, I like the pretty cover. 
The Red Necklace, Sally Gardner -- She wrote I, Coriander.  I'm there.
Looks, Madeleine George -- I like the idea of knowing everyone's secrets.
The Exchange, Graham Joyce -- Looks creepy.  And I need some new urban fantasy.

Hyperion:

The Disreputable History of Frankie Landau-Banks, E. Lockhart -- Uh, duh.  It's by E. Lockhart.

Mira: 

Fire Study, Maria V. Snyder -- I'm so ridiculously hooked on this series that it's, well, ridiculous.

Subterranean:

Backup, Jim Butcher -- A Harry Dresden story, but from Thomas' POV.  I'm there.
Tales of Pain and Wonder, Caitlin R. Kiernan -- I still haven't gotten around to reading Alabaster, but I may as well add this one to my list anyway.

Bloomsbury:

The Other Book, Philip Womack -- It's a school story and a fantasy... but it's likened to Stephen King rather than J.K. Rowling.  Huh.  Worth a try, methinks.
Big Fat Manifesto, Susan Vaught -- This is at least the third upcoming book I've noticed that deals with weight and body image, and the second that I've put on my list.  I've been meaning to get to Trigger, as well.

Candlewick:

Triskellion, Will Peterson -- Foreboding English bees.  Ooooo.

Harcourt:

Regarding the Bathrooms, Kate and Sarah Klise -- I don't think I'll ever get tired of the Geyser Creek books.
Twice Upon a Marigold, Jean Ferris -- Eeek!  I had no idea this one was in the works!  I loved the first one.
Genius Squad, Catherine Jinks -- Sequel to the awesome Evil Genius.  Here's hoping it's just as awesome.

Henry Holt:

The Adoration of Jenna Fox, Mary Pearson -- This reminds me that I STILL haven't read A Room on Lorelei Street.
Bewitching Season, Marissa Doyle -- 1837 London, a girl's coming out season, and MAGIC.
Debbie Harry Sings in French, Meagan Brothers -- A boy who discovers Debbie Harry and realizes that he kind of wants to be her.  I ask you:  Who doesn't?

Little, Brown:

Sweethearts, Sara Zarr -- She writes, I read.  I loved Story of a Girl THAT MUCH.
Slip of the Knife, Denise Mina -- Well, that and the rest of the Paddy Meehan books I haven't read yet.

Random House:

The Opposite of Invisible, Liz Gallagher -- Another great cover.  Oh, don't judge me.  You know you do the same thing. 
Runemarks, Joanne Harris -- Will Joanne Harris make a successful transition from adult author to middle-grade author?  I hope so.

That's just after a cursory look at a few catalogs and websites, and I didn't mention the upcoming books that I've already read, like the Sarah Dessen and the Susan Beth Pfeffer, or the upcoming books I've already started, like the Catherine Gilbert Murdock.  I also didn't mention the authors I've been meaning to get to, like Octavia Butler, Michael Chabon (nope, still haven't read him), Elizabeth Hand and Emma Bull.  And of course, more Nancy Drew and more Charles de Lint.  Man, I'm in trouble.

Also, I want to read more short stories this year.  I'd like read at least one a day.  Whether or not I'll be able to keep up with writing about them is questionable, though.  Hmmm.
