Here's my question:
Why was it on the required reading list in the first place?
It's fake. Fake-ity fake fake fake.
And also bad. I'm not saying I didn't read the hell out of it when I was in middle school -- I did. But it is a very silly pick for a required reading list. That doesn't seem to be why it was removed, mind you -- judging by the (ultra-brief) article, it sounds like it was been pulled not because it's Super Phony, but because of the sex and profanity. There was nothing said about the book being pulled from the library, just that it's not longer required reading.
Second question: If Go Ask Alice was on their required reading list, when was the last time their curriculum was updated? Yowza.
Third question: Has anyone actually read any of the other Beatrice Sparks books?
