Vamped -- Lucienne Diver

VampedGina Covello gets wasted at an after-prom party and ends up in the broom closet with her classmate, a suddenly stunningly attractive chess club nerd.  Her boyfriend does not find her huge hickey amusing.  Angry and drunk = not a good way to drive.

Days after the crash, Gina wakes up buried not-so-alive (despite the lack of fun in that situation, she's appreciative of the fact that her parents went for an expensive coffin).  She catches on pretty quickly:  she's a vampire.  Vampires have no reflection.  How ever will she keep her make-up fresh and her hair properly coiffed?  Obviously she's going to need backup.

If you can believe it, it turns out that Gina has a bigger problem to contend with than gathering an entourage:  pretty much her entire high school class has been Vamped, and they're all stuck in the middle of some big vampire turf war.

Someone somewhere described this book as something along the lines of:  Cordelia Chase becomes a vampire with a conscience.  Which is accurate.  Sort of.  Gina is shallow and vain and quick-witted, like Cordelia, and she's a good person underneath it all, also like Cordelia.  But Gina doesn't have the same spark.  She never became real to me, and I never understood what her relationship with Bobby the Chess Vampire was all about, other than that he was a hottie.  The storyline and the writing itself felt choppy and sometimes disjointed, and while Gina did have some great lines, I actually usually found her... irritating.

But.  It should be noted that I'm feeling a little vamped-out, and I'm not exactly in the target demographic.  So there's that.  It's certainly possible that bazillions of girls are going to attack me in the comments.  And I did think the book's ending will allow the author to go in a really fun direction, so there's that.  Overall, though, this one wasn't so much for me.
