Gwenda Bond on dystopian YA...

...at Tor.com:

I’d hold that teenagers and dystopian works have always gone together. Over the past decade and the explosion of YA itself as a field, I believe the renaissance (or birth, however you want to look at it) of this subgenre being written for teens began with Scott Westerfeld’s Uglies trilogy.

Err. But Uglies definitely hit a broader audience and proved the subgenre insanely marketable. Oh. And Feed isn't quite a dystopia, I guess, since there isn't Big Scary Governmental Control Stuff.

So... YOU WIN, GWENDA! Dammit.
