Today's Kirkus post...
...is about the WSJ/#yasaves saga. And I've just started listening to the new MPR piece on it. So far, it sounds like the radio lady is being much harder on the pro-YA people than she was on MCG.
Relatedly, in Washington State:
The Richland School Board voted 3-2 this week to prohibit use of The Absolutely True Diary of a Part-Time Indian by Sherman Alexie in classrooms of any grade level.
The book had been piloted in a ninth-grade English class last fall and then was reviewed by the district's Instructional Materials Committee.
The original question before the board was whether to use Absolutely True in freshman classes. But the final vote took it away from all students.
None of the board members had read Absolutely True, they conceded.
[My emphasis.]
Semi-relatedly: This opinion piece by an author who believes Go the Expletive Deleted to Sleep* is a parody of his own book, that we as a culture need to "respectfully stand up and say "no thanks"", praises Delta for ejecting that children's book author for swearing, and that books like Go the Expletive Deleted to Sleep could lead to books promoting domestic abuse.
I don't really buy the idea that 300,000,000+ people should have to adhere to one guy's personal preferences, or, for that matter, that you can even lump all of the United States into "One Culture" but, you know. He's entitled to his opinion.
I also have another QRank quiz up at Kirkus, and this one's about Egypt-related mysteries: Let me know how you do!

*On occasion, I feel that that the phrase 'Expletive Deleted' is more hilarious than actually swearing. I'm sure there's a reason why, but I don't know what it is.
