John Green's Looking for Alaska pulled from classrooms in Sumner County, TN.

From the Tennessean:

The district banned the book from its assigned classroom reading list, becoming at least the second in the state, after Knox County in March, to keep students from reading it together in class.

...

The challenges ignite debate over censorship of books in public schools and how much control a parent should have, as Tennessee lawmakers have passed a bill to deter teachers from promoting “gateway sexual activity.”

I... hadn't heard about that bill. Sounds super clear-cut and not remotely likely to cause strife. (<--sarcasm) I mean, in this case, it's not like people have differing opinions about the scene, right? It totally promotes "gateway sexual activity", right? (<--more sarcasm)

Ag.

PS. One parent, btdubs. One parent who "skimmed the material". That's who brought the challenge. After that, the article says, the district reviewed it and ultimately decided to pull it. Because, you know: it wasn't written by Hemingway or Steinbeck. If the book had been by one of them (according to the Sumner County schools spokesman), sexual content (or any, as he so delicately put it, "language") would have likely gotten a pass.
