On its way to the big screen: the Anne of Green Gables musical.
From the Hollywood Reporter:
The Film Farm and Side Road's theatrical treatment of Anne of Green Gables -- The Musical comes on the upcoming 50th anniversary of the live stage production next year.
"With the 50th anniversary of this beloved musical classic coming in 2014, it is the perfect time for a feature film version," said Harron in a statement.
I haven't seen the musical, so I can't comment on that.
BUT. As I grew up on Megan Follows and Jonathan Crombie and Colleen Dewhurst and Richard Farnsworth, it's hard for me to wrap my head around the idea of anyone else filling those roles.
Relatedly, as far as I can tell, the new miniseries—which is set in the modern day—is still on track to happen.
Which is yet another thing I have a hard time wrapping my brain around. But, hey: there's no one forcing me to watch it, and maybe it'll inspire the uninitiated to go back and read the source material.
