New YA deals.

From two different editions of Publishers Lunch:

THESE BROKEN STARS co-author Amie Kaufman and STORMDANCER author Jay Kristoff's ILLUMINAE, the found footage-style story of a young hacker and her fighter pilot ex-boyfriend who must uncover the truth about the deadly plague ravaging their fleet, the AI that should be protecting them, and the powers that be who may or may not be lying about everything, pitched as Battlestar Galactica meets Ten Things I Hate About You.

Which reminds me, there was a hilarious moment at Kidlitcon in which a session was briefly derailed while everyone complained about the 'X meets Y' method of description.

Kelly Fiore's THE PEOPLE VS. CECELIA PRICE, featuring a teenaged girl accused of murdering her brother despite the fact that the truth is a lot more complicated, pitched as Sara Zarr meets Breaking Bad, to Karen Chaplin at Harper Teen, in a pre-empt, in a two-book deal.

"Sara Zarr meets Breaking Bad". WHAT DOES THAT EVEN MEAN.
