A few notable Kindle Daily Deals.
- A Natural History of Dragons: A Memoir by Lady Trent, by Marie Brennan. This one has been on my TBR list for AGES. It usually gets described as JANE AUSTEN... WITH DRAGONS, so I'm not sure how I have managed to NOT read it yet.
- There are some V.C. Andrews books on sale, and god help me, I'm tempted.
- Claire DeWitt and the City of the Dead, by Sara Gran (link to kindle edition):
All that would be fantastic on its own, but where the book really shines is in Claire's voice, which reads both totally original AND classic noir. She's got a deep well of sadness and anger, but she's also understatedly hilarious. To say that she's not entirely reliable is probably an understatement—she's got a history of psychiatric problems as well as a penchant for abusing drugs and alcohol on a regular basis—but, at the same time, I never doubted that she was speaking her own truth.
- Philip K. Dick: Man in the High Castle, A Scanner Darkly, and The Three Stigmata of Palmer Eldritch. I'm thinking that if I can't find a copy at home, I'll shell out for Man in the High Castle, if only to read it before watching the show.
