Ghost World -- Daniel Clowes
Okay, so I started reading my sister's copy of this book years and years ago. I got halfway through it before realizing that the book was bound incorrectly. (That is a total understatement, actually. About halfway through, it started all over again--the second half wasn't there at all! It was beastly. I was so mad.)
Anyway, not so long ago, I finally bought and read a non-defective copy, and not very shockingly, I loved it.
It's a raunchy, realistic story about growing up and moving on. If you don't understand why following suspected Satanists around the grocery store to see what they purchase would be entertaining, it might not be the book for you. (That was my favorite bit. They bought Lunchables. Somehow, that's just so, so perfect.)
Incidentally, it made me appreciate the movie even more than I already did--which is really saying something--it somehow really captured the visual flatness of the comic. The casting, the additional storylines and the performances really made for a super adaptation.
