Recent A/V.
National Treasure:
Is Nicolas Cage following in Michael Caine's-say-yes-to-any-script-that-comes-his-way footsteps? I've heard that a whole lot of people liked this one. Me, not so much -- I thought it was a bit of a snoozer.
And there's going to be a sequel? Criminy.
Jezebel:
Amazing performance by Bette Davis in this one. I mean, WOW. I say again... WOW. The Red Dress Scene is legendary for a reason.
It was almost two hours long, but Josh and I were both so into it that we were both surprised (we were actually squabbling about Bette's intentions) when it ended. Super-fab.
For Your Consideration:
Odd that we had just watched Jezebel, as this movie began with Catherine O'Hara* watching (and lip-synching) along with it. I didn't guffaw the way I did while watching A Mighty Wind, but I grinned all the way through it. Fun.
Deadwood, Season One:
Not only is the show brilliant, but Al Swearengen is the most fascinating (and frightening) character I've run across in a long, long time. I don't blame these people for being pissed re: cancellation.
Nanny McPhee:
Loved the sets, the costumes, the cast, everything. Emma Thompson is the queen of cool.
Buffy, Season 7:
Should've known better. I'm one of the few who actually enjoyed Season 6**, so I blithely assumed that I would at least find Season 7 entertaining. No such luck. The dialogue is just... well, bad, not to mention all of the speechifying. And it's even kind of boring. Sad.
To be fair, I'm not even halfway through the season yet. But honestly, I don't know if I'm going to even keep watching -- you know it's bad when Andrew steals every scene he's in.
*Who, by the way, is the awesomest of the awesome.
**Despite the uber-angst.
