Reading Notes.

  • So, this weekend I was reading Steven Millhauser's In the Penny Arcade and really, really enjoying it.  But then, at about the three-quarter mark, the edition I had suddenly turned into a James Thurber book.  Literally.  Specifically The Thurber Carnival, I think.
  • Not that there's anything wrong with reading Thurber, of course.  I read and enjoyed his stories, too.  But it was a bit of a shock.  And I would liked to have had the last two Millhauser stories.

  • I'm currently reading Wildwood Dancing -- this morning, I hit page 84 and I suddenly KNEW how everything was going to turn out.  I'm positive that I'm right, but I'm going to finish it just to be sure.  (And because I'm liking it, too, though one of the characters reminds me of a version of Beauty and the Beast's Gaston, minus the drinking, whoring and rowdiness.)
