Couple of older titles today:
• All Things Bright and Beautiful, by James Herriot: I grew up on the old PBS series & haven’t tried the new one yet, but I’m betting that it must have renewed interest in the books? (I *ALSO* grew up on the books—to the point where I wanted to be a vet at one point, which is hilarious, because you’d think that all of the descriptions of poor James having to strip down in the middle of the night in a freezing cold barn in order to basically dive into a pregnant cow to help her deliver a calf would have put me off, but what it actually took to finally KILL MY DREAM was having my cat’s abscess burst in my lap and spew pus everywhere, but I digress—and they are WONDERFUL, warm and thoughtful and very, very funny.)
• No Time to Spare, by Ursula K. Le Guin: If she wrote it, it’s worth reading. This alone, right from the pub copy, was enough for me to buy it:
On breakfast: “Eating an egg from the shell takes not only practice, but resolution, even courage, possibly willingness to commit crime.”
